Is the Scots language still alive and kicking?

The Edinburgh University Press are keen to promote the teaching and use of the Scots language in schools. They have asked us to let parents and teachers know of some of their publications.

These include:

  • Scots School Dictionary - designed to encourage the use of Scots in schools, this dictionary (Scots-English/English-Scots) is also a useful compact reference book.
  • Grammar Broonie - what is odd about the phrase "Scots wha hae...", do you say "youse" to one person or two? Find out in this guide to Scots grammar.
  • Electronic Scots School Dictionary - takes the Scots language into the computer age and is aimed at children in the upper-primary and lower-secondary age range. Features include: spoken pronunciations, regional maps, mini Scots grammar file, bilingual text.

You can find out about the full range of publications from the Edinburgh University Press on their website at: www.eup.ed.ac.uk
