Get on yer bike to school!

How do you promote cycling and walking to school? We all know the health benefits but how do you get others involved? Here are some useful tips...

1. Get the Headteacher on board. He/she doesn't have to do the work but needs to show you some support.
2. Send out newsletters which show progress and tell parents how they could get involved.
3. Make feedback boxes for the children and print the results in the newsletter - this will show the parents the concerns their children have about safe travel to school.
4. Perform car counts and make them highly visible, ie outside the school. Share the results through the newsletter.
5. Ask if any parents work in health, the local authority or the police and get them to share their expertise - and, if necessary, their influence.
6. Get local councillors involved to set an example and to help your campaign.

Have you any other ideas about road safety and safe school travel?
