GridClub Games

Would you want to help Secret Agent, Lara McCroft? Can you escape from Verbassic Island? Why not encourage your child to try the two new games on the GridClub website aimed at 7-12 year olds.

GridClub is one of the most popular primary school websites in the UK with its fun approach to learning. The site is linked to the school curriculum and has over 500 games and activities for 7-12 year olds as well as a mediated discussion forum and a protected environment to learn all about internet safety. Thanks to funding from the Scottish Executive all primary schools and libraries can now get free access to this site for 2005-06 using their own UserID and password. All pupils and parents can access the service either from home, school or library. It must be good because it is used in over 60% of Scottish primary schools.

Two new games have just been road-tested in Glasgow primary schools.
The first one, "Escape From Verbassic Island" is a literacy adventure game using 3D-effect graphics and comic-style animation. In "Secret Agent", Lara McCroft has to solve problems that support both literacy and numeracy.

Both games were developed by Scottish companies and Learning and Teaching Scotland provides advice for teachers on how to embed ICT more effectively in the classroom using GridClub.
