Pupils miss lessons for cheap holidays

As reported in "The Scotsman" on Wednesday 15th December 2004.
Judith Gillespie was quoted as saying that "there needs to be a big effort to persuade parents that it is always bad to remove their children from school during term".

This came after figures from the Scottish Executive showed that of the 140,000 children who skipped classes for one reason or another, 4,000 of those were on holiday.

Judith Gillespie was also quoted on "this is north scotland". She called on parents to "be sensible ... we need to look at the impact on our children of taking them out of school (as) teaching classes where different children are disappearing to go on holiday can be disruptive."
