The Evening News (19/01/2005) reported that, according to research, the oldest pupils in primary school classes are more likely to go to university than their younger peers. SPTC comments..

Judith Gillespie, SPTC Development Manager said that the findings confirmed widespread experience of many teachers. She did warn that parents should not decide to hold their child back without consulting nursery staff.
"We have been aware that age is an important factor in education for some time, but we would not give blanket advice to parents to defer their children for a year automatically," she said. "Holding them back could mean that when they do start, they are too advanced for their class, so could become bored and irritable."
