Placing Requests
SPTC believe that parents should try to support their local schools rather than applying for a placing request.
SPTC was asked to comment on statistics released by the Scottish Executive which showed that local authorities received 31.076 placing requests in 2003-04. Although these figures do not reveal why parents were taking this route, SPTC expressed concern that too many families may be unhappy with their local school.
Eleanor Coner, SPTC Information Officer was quoted: "If parents hear that the school down the road has a far better reputation then they tend to put in placing requests.... " She said: "There is room for parental choice, but we would encourage parents to think very carefully about putting their children in the local school and helping to improve their local school rather than sending them elsewhere."
