Teachers baffled by police checks law
Judith Gillespie was quoted in the "Edinburgh Evening News" on April 5th as part of SPTC's continuing battle to get some clarity about the need for police checks.
The SPTC Development Manager called the new legislation "ridiculous" and warned that the confusion surrounding police checks may stop parents from volunteering.
The new legislation, (part of the Protection of Children Act) means that from April 11th it will be an offence for an organisation to knowingly employ a person who is on the list of those disqualified from working with children.
SPTC are trying to understand whether parents who help out at PTA events will fall under this legislation and will need police checks. For the full story, go to: http://news.scotsman.com/education.cfm?id=359412005
