Protection gone mad?
SPTC comments on the news that Aberdeenshire council are advising pupils not to travel on public buses to school due to the concerns of some parents.
The council had carried out a review of their school transport system and found that some parents would not let their children travel on services which were open to the general public; they were concerned about safety.
Judith Gillespie, SPTC Development Manager commented: "People have got this whole protection of kids thing out of proportion. The legislation only applies to those people in childcare positions - it doesn't apply to all contact between adults and children.
She went on to say: "Kids have got to be part of our lives, but the more you separate children, the more difficult it is for them to cope when they are old enough to interact with adults."
