30 subjects to be axed

After it was announced by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) that more than 30 subjects were to be axed from schools because they were not popular enough, Judith Gillespie from the SPTC made the following statement to the "Evening Times":

"... the cull of unpopular subjects was sensible...." ".... People voted with their feet and did vocational courses at college which they felt were more relevant and which employers also felt were more relevant."

Courses to be axed include: the principles of hair colouring; facial care; event planning; telecommuniciations; media literacy; automotive diagnostics; cutting and perming hair; manufacturing and retail distribution.
