What did you do?
To aid in this exercise we produced an A4 flyer that could be handed-out to parents at events such as parents’ evening when they are pressed for time.
This document provides brief information on the work of the Parent Council, future fundraising events and the channels open to parents to stay up-to-date with news and to communicate with.
The project was prepared by two members of the Parent Council starting from an initial draft of the textual material and then evolving that material to use graphics and colour. We specifically wanted to produce a flyer that is bright, attractive and interesting.
The design of the flyer allows it to be quickly adapted for new events as only the future events need to change each time the document is used.
Who was involved?
The document was initially prepared by Susan Edwards and Steve Hodgson and then reviewed by additional Parent Council members.
What was the biggest success?
The biggest success of this project is to have an attractive document we can hand out to parents with more confidence they may read it. We are always conscious that we must not rely solely upon electronic communication to communicate with parents. When handed-out to parents and families who may not have English as a first language this format allows them to translate it at home when time is available.
Would you do anything differently?
No - we feel this format works well currently.
Are you going to continue with this work, or has it inspired you to do something else?
We will continue to use this document to promote our work with the school and our future events.
How much did this work cost?
There was no cost to producing this flyer and the initial print runs have been covered by volunteers.
Source of funding (if any)?
In future we will print these using a professional low-cost print service. Funds will be released from the PC funds.
